Dec 9th - Quiet the nervous mind: Restorative to reduce anxiety. This workshop will talk about anxiety and how we can use restorative yoga as a tool to turn down our over active mind and move towards rest and healing.

Dec 16th - Winter stimulating restorative to battle Tamas. Winter can have the feeling of being dry, cold and heavy. In turn we may feel that way; when the mind becomes tamasic we experience dullness, gloominess, sadness and have the tendency to become inert and not be inspired. In this class we will move towards postures that work at the subtle level to counter those feelings and turn the body to receive more prana. These postures will reinvigorate us and hopefully lead us to getting up and active.

Dec 23rd - Advanced restorative for active souls. Ar you ready for advanced relaxation> This workshop will work on deeper more opening restorative postures. We will work on super supported backbends and inversions and longer holds in each of the poses. This class will take restorative yoga to the next level.  $25 each or $60 all 3 sessions.

Part I: The Sacred Architecture of the Spine

Practicing yoga asanas (postures) is one of the best ways to maintain a healthy spine. Like the trunk of a tree, the spine supports the entire body structure and is built for stability, protection, movement and respiration. In this 2-hour workshop (the first of a series of three workshops), you will gain a deeper understanding of the evolution, purpose and structural architecture of our spine.  We will look at common afflictions related to the spine -- including tension headaches, respiratory issues, digestive disorders, sciatica, scoliosis and backaches -- and how to both prevent and treat these conditions through yoga asanas. Come explore the anatomy behind yoga postures that bring freedom, strength and release to your spine. At the end of the lecture, we will integrate everything learned into a yoga asana practice to awaken and energize our Sacred Spine. "Move with your spine in mind."

Part II: The Sacred Science of Breathing and Function of the Nervous System

There is no mistaking that we live in a fast-paced society where time is perceived as a scarce commodity, and that this kind of lifestyle can have detrimental effects on our minds and bodies. Have you ever experienced your mind racing, your heart pumping, your blood pressure soaring, increased perspiration, or your mouth getting dry? If so, there’s a good chance that you have experienced the “fight-or-flight” response.  Every time your body triggers this response, even in situations that are not life-threatening, we set off an alarm in our autonomic nervous system. As this happens repeatedly over time, it can lead to stress-related disorders including heart disease, high blood pressure, insomnia and even sexual dysfunction, to name a few.

Part III: The Special Seven Life-Force Energy Centers

Behind all yoga asanas is prana, the universal life force and vital energy that enables our body to move and our minds to think. Prana means “life” in Sanskrit, and behind every breath there is life. In yoga, prana travels along energy channels called nadis, and where two or more intersect, we have a chakra. Along our spine, there are seven main chakras, each corresponding to a different part of the body and a specific organ. The chakras deliver prana to the organs, which allows them to function optimally and efficiently. When we have an openness and flow of energy through our chakras, we experience a sense of balance and a better state of health physically, mentally, and emotionally, which brings us into a higher state of consciousness. In this 2-hour workshop, which will include an asana practice.

Friday January 25th 5-7pm Chinatown $25 For women at midlife and beyond, yoga offers a primary form of menopause medicine and supports a women’s inner wisdom through this stage. Yoga reduces the effects of hormonal changes by balancing the endocrine system and can assist you in coping with a wide range of symptoms and challenges.

Friday evening - Restorative Yoga session will introduce deeply relaxing passive poses, supported by yoga props to help you stay in poses for a longer time to restore your energy and allow your nervous system to relax. Restorative Yoga replenishes your adrenal reserves, which will support you through the times when you are feeling “too tired to exercise” (often due to adrenal exhaustion).

Saturday January 26th 2-4:30pm $30 Chinatown Saturday afternoon will focus on key poses for women at midlife, including supported, nurturing ways to practice yoga’s vital weight bearing Standing and Inverted Poses and Backbends. These poses are particularly important as they have a powerful effect on the neuroendocrine system, allowing fresh, oxygenated blood to flow to the glands in the head and neck.
