NEW to Yoga?
You've heard of all the wonderful benefits yoga has to offer, but you're still a little hesitant. Maybe it's because you can't touch your toes? That's Ok, Yoga requires nothing more than the desire to feel better and think clearer in all areas of life.
Yoga is a healthy and wholesome way to become contacted with your body. Our teachers are friendly and knowledgeable, with support for all level students. All of our staff will always greet you with a friendly smile and pay attention to your needs. Our goal is for you to feel connected, a sense of camaraderie and create a space where you can be yourself.
Here's a few things to know.
The practice of yoga begins before your class starts. To create the best experience for yourself and others, please follow these guidelines:
- Arrive a few minutes before class begins and check in at the desk before going into the practice room. Give yourself time for a moment of meditation and to relax from the day. If you arrive just as class is beginning, the door may be locked until the centering portion of class is finished. Once the teacher lets you in please enter quietly and find a place in the back of the class. Late arrivals can be disruptive and may not be accommodated.
- Students are always welcome to relax in the space prior to the class if the room is open – we ask that you observe noble silence and limit your activity to relaxation, rather than starting any active asana practice.
- Please keep conversations low when you arrive and leave as other students may be relaxing or meditating. We want to create a space of healing, quiet, and relaxation as well as one of friendship.
- Come with an empty stomach. Yoga is best practiced three hours after a meal.
- Tell your teacher about any injuries or special health conditions before class. This will help the teacher make suggestions to make your practice safer and more enjoyable.
- Bring your own yoga mat to class, several mat styles are available to enhance your practice. Rental mats are available at $1 per use and mat cleaner is supplied for you to wipe the mat after class. If you perspire during class, please bring a towel. Please do not use studio blankets without a towel if you are perspiring.

- Leave cell phones outside the practice rooms and turn them off.
- Do not bring a beginner to an intermediate class. This is for the beginner’s safety as well as respect for the other students and teachers. Please ask the staff or teachers for suggestions about classes if you are uncertain.
- Remove your shoes before entering to keep the floors clean for others.
- Refrain from wearing perfumes or fragrances as some people are allergic to strong odors. Yoga mats may be kept fresh by washing them from time to time.
- Keep the studio nice by replacing props and borrowed mats neatly.
- As a common courtesy, please do not attend classes if you are sick that others could possibly catch.
Self-awareness leads to attention to detail and to the respect for the space and people around you. Thank you for creating a sacred space for your practice and for respecting the Spirit of Yoga.

Mary Bastien, E-RYT 500 and Rain Magyar started Open Space Yoga November of 2004 on Maunakea Street in Hawaii’s historical Chinatown. They both saw Chinatown as not only a cultural melting pot, but as a developing neighborhood filling with new art galleries and boutiques. Open Space Yoga has now moved over 25North Hotel st. Honolulu. Open Space Yoga also has a two other locations Diamond Head /Waikiki and North shore in Haleiwa town.
